Winlock has been supplying the UK fenestration industry with UK made handles, locking systems and security devices for over 30 years. Winlock also remains the only volume supplier of UK made window handles.
Following the merger of its activities with Easyfit Hardware in 2013, it has offered a much broader range of own-brand products. These ranges include friction stays, door hinges, door handles, window and door locking systems. Moreover, Winlock offers a host of niche products and accessories that have been designed to make fabrication, installation and maintenance easier and more secure.
Document Q relates to the Building Regulation security requirements for all windows and doors in new dwellings in England and Wales and came into effect initially in October 2016. It now applies to all new build sites other than those already under construction before October 1 2016.
A key requirement of Document Q is that doors and accessible windows on new build site must be shown by testing to meet the requirements of PAS024 (initially the 2012 edition). Our interpretation of this requirement is that the testing must be independently conducted at a UKAS accredited test house
(if the test centre is not UKAS accredited how can compliance with the standard be assured?).
The problem for fabricators who supply relatively little to new build is how to justify this cost. READ MORE
"We wanted a security fingerpull that would work with a 35mm backset lock and Stronghold finger pull from Winlock is the only one out there that fits properly. They had clearly done their homework on our door and gave us a product that fits, is high security, stainless steel and looks great."
"We were thinking of dropping “Heritage” style slam shuts because of the known remedial problems until Winlock came along with their Stronghold. The extra locking point in the centre has solved our bowing issue, and we like the fact that Winlock won’t offer this type of lock without the extra locking point – refusing to compromise performance with false economy."
Jessica Brunton, Allglaze
"When we first made flush sash casements we were told that it was not possible to have a night vent function without cutting out the exterior gasket – spoiling the look and performance of our flagship window. We put this problem to Winlock and the result was their patented Deltalock system which gave us PAS024 and night vent without compromising the weatherseal. They understood our problem and came up with a unique solution."
Surgit Singh, Evolution Windows
"Like a lot of great ideas it seems obvious once someone shows how it can be done and the Easyfit repair handle has been a game changer. The ability to swap spindles and to change buttons in seconds makes replacing espag handles on site as easy as can be, cuts down on stocks and the handle itself is of top quality. They even offer special repair screws that can be trimmed to size without damaging the threads, they have thought of pretty much everything."
Stuart Scott, Chatsworth Windows
"We had been looking for a universal multipoint lock for the repair market for some time, and the products that came onto the market didn’t really solve our most difficult problems. When Winlock/Easyfit offered us their patented Repair MPL system it was clear they understood completely the issues faced by our customers and ourselves and had listened to our suggestions. They offered a far more complete range which covered many more lock varieties than the competitors. It is still the best product of its type on the market and their customer and technical support is first class."
Paul King, King Solutions
"When we first approached suppliers regarding Part Q compliance most of them had little idea what it entailed. We were pleased and surprised to find that Winlock not only understood its requirements and implications but already had an extensive range of their products independently tested well ahead of the new regulations coming into force. Their technical advice proved to be spot on and in the end, our doors and windows with Winlock hardware sailed through the testing and put us well ahead of the game. Now that the vast majority of new build sites require Part Q compliance we are reaping the benefits of this partnership."
Dave Smith, IDM Doors
"When we were planning to launch the groundbreaking Liniar pvc bi-fold system we found that none of our suppliers could provide the special shootbolts we needed to make the system work – and the timescales we were quoted to produce these new items meant delaying the whole project. We were introduced to Alan and his team who within weeks had produced exactly what we needed out of their facilities in China. We subsequently worked together on bespoke locking espags and a unique design of master door lock and keep that helped our bifold system perform as it was designed to, rather than being limited by the hardware available. Easyfit helped take our initial conceptual designs to reality, providing a friendly, professional, quick and efficient route to market meeting all pre-agreed timescales and ensuring a smooth launch to market."
